AlohaRain – Personal Brand Logo & Combination Mark *
Project Overview:
This assignment introduced us to the fundamentals of logo design, including mark creation, type studies, and combining symbols with wordmarks to form a combination logo. For my project, I chose to brand myself using the name AlohaRain—a name I’ve used for years as a content creator and designer. The project focused on repetition, configuration, figure/ground exploration, and typography.
Design Concept:
I used the first letter of my last name (“A”) to create a custom symbol that resembles a hibiscus flower—a nod to both Hawai‘i (where I was raised) and my personal aesthetic. Through mirror reflection and rotation, I created a shape that feels both floral and heart-like, expressing softness, identity, and confidence.
The final logo combines this symbol with a handwritten-style logo type, pairing:
Symbol Typeface: Amatemora – playful and cursive
Logo Typeface: The Blacklight – elegant and personal, resembling my own handwriting
My palette includes a soft pastel pink (#F386AA) and black for contrast.
Reflection:
This project was my first real dive into branding, and it helped me visualize how I want to present myself to the world. I learned how to balance playfulness with professionalism and create something that feels like me. I still use this identity in different areas of my creative work.
