SIMOTIVATION
Class: IDUS 209 – Rapid Prototyping: Analog to Digital Fabrication (Fall 2022)
Tools Used: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
Focus: Graphic Design, Visual Storytelling, Brand Concepting
Project Overview:
For this individual assignment, we were challenged to explore cross-branding by developing a conceptual product or feature for Alexa tailored toward kids. While the class emphasized hands-on prototyping, I chose to focus on the visual storytelling side of the brief, creating a bold concept graphic around an inspiring public figure.
Why Simone Biles?
As a former gymnast, Simone Biles has always been a personal motivator for me. Her strength, openness about mental health, and her confidence both in and out of the gym made her the perfect figure to model a project for young athletes. I imagined “SIMOTIVATION” as an Alexa experience that offers daily affirmations, motivational quotes, and gentle mental health reminders voiced or inspired by Simone herself.
Design Focus:
The graphic blends movement, emotional resonance, and powerful words. I used circular type, bold compositions, and warm neutral colors to reflect strength and softness. Though the Alexa prototype wasn’t completed, this piece reflects the heart of the idea—designing for kids through empowerment, empathy, and voice.
Reflection:
This project helped me express an emotional connection through design. It showed me that branding can go beyond logos—it can become a feeling. Even without a functioning prototype, I’m proud of how I brought a story to life using visual tools and personal meaning.
