Exploration Booklet – "I Wish I Had Someone"

Class: GRDS 285 – Production for Physical Environments (Fall 2023)

Tools Used: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator

Focus: Visual Expression, Emotional Typography, Type + Image Integration

Project Overview:
For this final project, we were asked to create a mini booklet combining original text and image, emphasizing visual storytelling and expressive typography. I chose lyrics from Tate McRae, an artist whose words deeply resonated with me at the time. Rather than using color or playful elements like in my usual work, I embraced a rawer, grayscale palette to capture the vulnerable emotions behind the lyrics.

Creative Direction:
Each spread reflects different lyrics through a mix of hand-drawn type, digital collage, texture overlays, and photo manipulation. The pacing and rhythm of the booklet mirror how the song felt to me—chaotic at times, quiet at others. I intentionally layered words to show internal conflict and isolation, visually mimicking how it feels to hold everything in.

Reflection:
This project was one of my most personal. It allowed me to step outside my comfort zone and be honest through design. While it’s different from my colorful, character-driven work, it’s just as important to me—and represents a side of design I don’t always get to share.
