Sanrio Meet & Greet – Expressive Type Poster Series
Class: GRDS 353 – Type II: Language, Expression & Media (Summer 2025)
Tools Used: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, After Effects
Focus: Expressive Typography, Motion Design, Poster Design, Layout Systems
Project Overview:
This project challenged us to create an expressive typographic poster series and a complementary motion piece that captured the spirit of an event or experience. Drawing inspiration from my own experience attending TwitchCon, I imagined what it would be like if Sanrio collaborated with Twitch to host a Sanrio Meet & Greet at the convention. The concept envisions a vibrant fan event where attendees can interact with beloved Sanrio characters through panels, photo ops, and live-streamed experiences. The posters capture the playful energy of both brands, celebrating creativity, connection, and community through expressive typography and color.
Design Strategy:
Each poster was designed around a central expressive phrase, using custom typographic treatments, vibrant color palettes, and playful composition to reflect Sanrio’s iconic aesthetic. I balanced structured grids with fluid letterforms to evoke excitement and movement, creating a unified series that feels dynamic yet cohesive. The accompanying motion piece brought the designs to life, animating type transitions and rhythm to mirror the lively tone of a fan convention.
Reflection:
This project allowed me to explore how typography can go beyond static form to express mood, rhythm, and emotion through both print and motion. I learned how to connect visual energy with audience engagement, translating personality through letterform movement and pacing. The process strengthened my storytelling skills and deepened my understanding of how type can become an experience in itself.
